Observer Reports
Alan Barr has been chosen as the new executive director of Belton Preparatory Academy.
Barr brings over 30 years of educational experience to the school.
Barr comes to Belton Prep after five years at Tuscaloosa Academy in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he served as the Dean of the Upper School and Interim Head of School. During his tenure, he worked with faculty to improve curriculum, cultivate extracurricular activities, mentor teachers, and create an encouraging environment for students.
“I am thrilled to join the Belton Prep community,” said Barr. “Belton Prep already has so many accomplishments and I am excited to be part of the many more coming our way as we move forward as a school.”
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Barr attended Hampden-Sydney College where he studied managerial economics. He earned his master’s in educational leadership from Longwood University. Over the course of his career, Barr served in both teaching and leadership capacities, acquiring extensive experience in curriculum, professional development, and school management.
Belton Preparatory Academy was recently listed as the top charter school in the state of South Carolina, and received the Diamond School of Excellence Award from the Charter Institute at Erskine earlier this year, scoring in the top 10 percent of all elementary and middle schools in English language arts (ELA) and math on the South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY).
