Historic Church Finds New Life as Pelzer Wedding Chapel
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
When Thomas Watson and Celina Weems first saw the historic Pelzer Presbyterian Church, it kicked off a vision to both save the facility and create new uses for the space.
The couple renovated almost every square foot of the 1883 structure, saving the sanctuary and upgrading the rest of the building and grounds to create a wedding chapel and event facilities.
The Lebby Street Chapel and Events center is already hosting weddings and special events, with complete dining, special areas for the bride and groom, and other rooms, all restored with period antique furniture. Even the church’s century-old pipe organ was saved and returned to use.
Outdoor facilities are also available on the restored grounds.
Watson and Weems talked to the Anderson Observer about how they made their vision a reality.
