White Knight Cosplay Brings Heroes, Hope, Education

“Heroes are made by the path they choose, not the powers they are graced with.”– Iron Man

When Sybil Todd needed a White Knight to save her from some dark days, she found her own hero within and created one.

And it all started when her husband Michael Todd was searching through boxes of comic books at a comic convention more than 10 years ago. Looking for something to alleviate her boredom, she noticed people in costumes and was introduced to the world of cosplay.

The mother of three also discovered her background and education had provided her with the tools and experience to bring hope and fun to others.

As founder of White Knight Cosplay and White Knight Entertainment, she not only takes on roles such as Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Lady Thor, she helps others find the costumes and inner strength to make their lives more joyful.

Todd, whose mother taught her to sew as a child, makes the costumes which transform her husband, three children and team of cosplay team into superheroes who make public appearances, and visit children in schools, hospitals and public libraries.

Her background in drama, she was a theater major at the University of Central Florida (home of the Knights), something that seems natural as she expresses her enthusiasm for the years of work have brought her.

She says elevating creativity has also served to bring her family closer together. All three of her kids, who were homeschooled to encourage reading and creativity, can sew and have made her proud to see how accomplished they already are in life.

As one who confesses to never slowing down, Todd hopes the cosplay teams can make more visits to encourage kids and others. She is also keen on helping any aspiring cosplayers, through education and by offering free advice to those who ask.

Todd is also branching out into more general fashion design, and was winner of the 2023 Goodwill “Color Me” Fashion show, a challenge that provided designers with a $200 Goodwill gift card which was to be used to create designs for the show.
