Artist, Educator to Retire from AU

Deborah Wilson/Anderson Observer

Jo Carol Mitchell-Rogers is in the final stages of completing one of her greatest finished work: a legacy of art and art education at Anderson University.

Mitchell-Rogers Oeuvre includes not only countless creations of her own, but a hand in the work of hundreds of students over her near-four decades at the school.

The professor of art and associate dean of the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, has been a fixture in the region’s art community for decades.

Her awards include the Boles Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Governor’s Distinguished Professor Citation (twice), and as the S.C. Art Education Association Higher Education Art Educator of the Year, an award also won twice.

Her work as a painter, mixed media artist and photographer has been included in more than 200 exhibitions around the world, and retirement will not mean an end to her creative efforts.

She plans to continue to create new art, and remains an active member of Artbomb Studios in Greenville.
