Letter: Time to Support Officials Who Support Women's Rights
I want to express my thoughts on the one year anniversary of the overturning of the Roe vs Wade Supreme Court decision of 1973 by corrupt members of the present Supreme Court appointed by former President Trump. His appointees lied to members of the Senate as they were being vetted. They said they respected the precedent of Roe vs. Wade. They clearly did not and they also proved that they do not respect women’s rights.
Today we need to support people in government who do respect women and their right over their bodies. Nothing is more personal, and the government has no right to intrude or make laws regarding a person’s body especially the right to have a child or not. This is solely the woman’s decision to make.
It felt like a punch in the gut when it became apparent that this sacred right would soon be overturned by the Court that is supposed to protect us. I ran for office but I was defeated by a hard right conservative who values the unborn over a woman’s rights over her body.
My strong feeling is that we must let our legislators know that we oppose taking away this right from us. It’s not good for women and it’s not good for our country.
Every Republican candidate for President in 2024 supports punishing women for terminating a pregnancy. Protect women. If you want to protect women, your choice is obvious. Those of us who are strong Christians may believe they are doing God’s will to hurt women to save an embryo but that is not the case. Jesus himself would not force a woman to have a child against her will. And neither should we.
