U.S. House District 3 Sheri Biggs

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

1. What makes you the best candidate in a crowded field running for this office? My unique experience - as a Lieutenant Colonel, as a nurse practitioner, as a political outsider and committed conservative Christian - sets me apart from the crowded field and makes me the most qualified to not only represent South Carolina's Third Congressional District but get results. My life has been a testament to service and leadership, defined by over three decades in the healthcare industry and distinguished service in the Air National Guard. These roles have provided me with a deep understanding of the critical issues facing our community - from Biden’s border crisis and the national security implications it poses, to healthcare, to veteran’s issues and support, and more. As a Member of Congress, I will leverage my military discipline and strategic insights and utilize mission-focused leadership to tackle the challenges we face, especially in securing our borders and ensuring our national safety. In healthcare, I have witnessed the consequences of inadequate policies and the disconnect between Washington's actions and the community's needs. While I have served as a Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my medical career goes beyond treating individuals. As a licensed administrator, I have overseen multi-million-dollar budgets and have had to work within the constraints of state, and federal mandates. I have volunteered to help address the mental health needs of our district, including that of veterans, law enforcement, and first responders. This experience makes me uniquely equipped to address the comprehensive health of our nation at a legislative level. Moreover, I am not a career politician. I am a servant leader who knows that career politicians, career bureaucrats, and career candidates have proven they cannot get results in Washington. It will take political outsiders - like me and President Trump - to get the job done. My campaign is not built on empty promises but, rather, on the proven actions and commitments I've already demonstrated throughout my life. I am led by faith and stand firm on our conservative values - the sanctity of life, fiscal responsibility, and protection of the Second Amendment - deeply personal convictions shaped by my experiences as a mother, a veteran, and a healthcare provider. In short, in this crowded field, what sets me apart is not just what I aim to do, but what I have already done. I have shown that I can lead in crisis, heal in adversity, and stand firm in my beliefs. As your Member of Congress, I will work tirelessly to heal our nation’s mental, fiscal, and spiritual health problems and ensure our district is a priority in every policy discussion and decision made in Washington.

2. How would you evaluate the job Jeff Duncan did in this position?

Rated the most conservative member of Congress - Congressman Jeff Duncan’s job record has been that of a fiscally responsible watchdog, a staunch defender of our Second Amendment rights, a committed veteran advocate, and Congress’ strongest proponent for American energy independence. Congressman Duncan has fought for our district for 14 years, and I thank him for his work. While I appreciate and respect the service, I also recognize the opportunity to bring new perspectives and experiences to this role. My background in healthcare and the military, coupled with my commitment to servant leadership, positions me to uniquely address the evolving challenges our district faces. From enhancing our national security through informed defense policies and ensuring the promises made to our veterans are kept, I am ready to build upon the conservative accomplishments Congressman Duncan has achieved.

3. Is there anything you will do differently that you consider a more effective path to serving the Third District? Again, I respect the work Congressman Jeff Duncan has done for South Carolina's Third Congressional District. With the border crisis intensifying daily and new challenges caused by Biden’s failures emerging consistently, I believe new strategies and fresh perspectives can enhance service to the community. My extensive background in healthcare positions me to bring a critical focus to the ongoing healthcare issues affecting our district and nation, particularly that of our veterans. Unlike traditional approaches, I plan to leverage my firsthand experience as a nurse practitioner and healthcare administrator to implement solutions that are not only policy-driven but are also practical and directly informed by frontline experiences. This includes expanding mental health services, improving veterans' healthcare accessibility, and ensuring that rural areas of our district receive the same quality of care as urban centers. These are pressing issues that require not just legislative attention but also an intimate understanding of healthcare delivery systems. I also plan to use my military experience to advocate for stronger national security measures with a particular focus on cyber defense. Our district is home to numerous tech companies that could be pivotal in strengthening our national cybersecurity framework. By advocating for federal support to harness local tech talent, we can protect our national interests and boost our local economy. While I will continue the solid conservative policies championed by Congressman Duncan, I also see a compelling need to adapt and expand our approaches to governance to meet the changing demands of our district. With a blend of respect for our foundations and a vision for innovation, I am committed to serving South Carolina’s Third Congressional District with a fresh perspective and a relentless dedication to our shared prosperity.

4. What are the three most pressing issues for this district and how would you address each? 1. Biden’s Border Crisis: The security and integrity of our national borders are fundamental to our nation’s sovereignty. The ongoing crisis at the border is not just a policy failure; it's a breakdown of our governmental duty to protect its citizens. To win the border war, I will work to enhance physical and technological barriers at the border. This includes advocating for the completion of the border wall and increasing the presence of border patrol and law enforcement agencies to halt illegal crossings and human trafficking. Moreover, I will push to replace “catch and-release” with “stop-and-deport.” 2. Inflation: The economic policies of the current administration have led to soaring inflation, affecting every American household. It is critical to implement policies that stabilize and strengthen our economy while reversing inflationary pressures. My plan focuses on reducing federal spending to curb the government's excessive monetary inflation contributions. Additionally, I advocate for tax reforms that incentivize businesses to invest and expand domestically, creating more American jobs and increasing supply, which can help drive prices down. Supporting American energy independence is also crucial; by reducing our reliance on foreign energy and boosting our domestic production, we can lower energy costs and further control inflation. 3. Veteran Support: Our veterans have made immense sacrifices for our freedom and security, and it is our duty to ensure they receive the care and respect they deserve. Unfortunately, many veterans face challenges in accessing the benefits and healthcare they have earned. My approach includes overhauling the VA healthcare system to reduce wait times and improve the quality of care. I will advocate for increased funding for mental health services tailored specifically to veterans, addressing PTSD, and other service-related mental health issues. Moreover, I am committed to streamlining the bureaucratic processes that often delay or deny veterans' benefits. Our heroes deserve a system that works promptly and effectively for them.

5. What are the three most pressing issues facing the U.S. House of Representatives moving into 2025? As we approach 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives faces several critical challenges that demand immediate and effective legislative action. The three most pressing issues are winning the border war, enhancing national security, and tackling inflation. 1. Winning the Border War: The invasion on the Southern Border affects us all. As stated above, we must build the wall. We must stop the invasion of illegal immigrants and drugs into our country. And we must replace “catch-and-release” with “stop-and-deport.” 2. Enhancing National Security: National security remains a paramount concern, especially in the face of evolving global threats, including cyber warfare, terrorism, and international aggression. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, I will work to ensure adequate funding for our military and intelligence communities, while also supporting policies that enhance cybersecurity infrastructure to protect against digital threats. 3. Tackling Inflation: The American economy is currently navigating through turbulent waters, with high inflation impacting the daily lives of our citizens. To address this, we need a multifaceted approach that starts with fiscal responsibility in Congress. It is crucial to curb excessive government spending, which contributes to inflation by increasing the national debt and devaluing our currency. Simultaneously, I believe in implementing policies that stimulate economic growth through small business support and energy independence. Reducing regulatory burdens and fostering an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship will lead to job creation and economic stability. Energy independence, particularly, can help in controlling inflation by making us less susceptible to global oil price fluctuations and reinforcing our national security.

6. What is your philosophy of working with other elected representatives, some of whom may have different viewpoints? As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard, I have worked with a diverse group of individuals with one goal in sight: to successfully “complete the mission at hand.” Right now, we must fix Biden’s border crisis. I believe all Americans including those with Democrat Congressmen want this done. I also believe keeping promises to veterans is another issue that should have bipartisan support. In the political landscape of today, where division often overshadows dialogue, I believe it is crucial to foster a spirit of mutual respect to effectively serve our constituents and advance our nation's interests.
