City to Consider Downtown Main Street Paving
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Anderson City Council will consider an engineering agreement on Monday to pave a central portion of Main Street through downtown as part of the regular meeting at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
The planned paving would stretch from Tribble Street on South Main to Reed Street on North Main, a stretch of roughly half a mile. The city is proposing an $82,000 contract with Davis & Floyd for professional engineering and construction engineering and inspection in relation to services for the repaving. The move is part of the city’s long-term infrastructure projects.
Council will also consider a cool, make that cold, idea for the annual Holiday Ice Skate Rink in Carolina wren Park. The goal is to expand the appeal of the facility and attract larger crowds beginning with the 2024 Christmas season by replacing the city-owned synthetic ice apparatus with real ice for skating. The city has worked with Seasonal Ice, LLC to design the ice rink. The company has provided similar installations for the City of Greenville, the City of Rock Hill, and locations across the southeast. The new design would utilize the city’s existing skate hut, skates, and rubber matting, and install the 42-ft x 60-ft ice rink, chiller, and fencing. Under the proposed contract, $137,500 annually for three years, the group will set up and plan the new rink, and would also provide 24/7 support during the entire Holiday Ice season, a tractor-mounted ice groomer, which will allow staff to resurface the ice throughout the season. Funding for the project would be paid from the City of Anderson’s hospitality tax funds.
At 5:15 work session in council chambers will discuss the Holiday Ice project in detail.
