Clemson Honors County Council Vice Chairman's as Top Entrepreneur

Anderson County Council Vice Chairman Brett Sanders has been recognized as a top entrepreneur by Clemson University.

The university’s Arthur M. Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership named Sanders Entrepreneur of the week, in recognition for his accomplishments as one of the area’s top business leaders. Sanders earned a B.S. in Financial Management in 1990 and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development from Clemson in 1997.

The Anderson native said he graduated from Clemson, entry-level career opportunities in the area were very limited.

“You essentially had two choices: one, relocate somewhere else with a stronger job market, or two, find a niche and create your own business,” said Sanders. “I chose the latter. I started an automotive inventory management business covering several states and an investment company for myself.”

Now in his fifth year of service on county council, he also believes in giving back to the community, a role he takes seriously, one which he hopes will create an economic, business-friendly environment for not only small businesses and entrepreneurs, but for graduates hoping to find professional career opportunities right here in the Upstate.

“I want to continue to play a part in others' successes and to make sure to leave solid and dynamic foundations that can be built upon positively,” said Sanders. “At this point in my life and career, my role means facilitating the success of the people in our community, not focusing on my own achievements. In doing that, I do draw upon my personal story, the lessons I've learned, and the challenges I've faced … to help others to become successful in reaching their goals.”
