Anderson County Council increased the salary of Administrator Rusty Burns seven percent on Tuesday night, a move some council members said was important.
The increase brings Burns’ annual salary to $199,020.
“The citizens of Anderson County are very fortunate to have this man working for us,” said County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.
“We appreciate the job Mr. Burns is doing. We are still lower (in salary) than other counties our size, but we want him to know we appreciate him. He doesn’t have a county car or phone and he works seven days a week.”
Anderson County Councilwoman Cindy Wilson praised Burns for his level of professionalism, knowledge of community and his continued contributions to the county. Councilman Jimmy Davis also praised the administrator for “always having the best interests of Anderson County at heart.”
Burns thanked council for their kind words and for their consideration.
“I just want council to know I appreciate it greatly,” said Burns. “I love my job and I love Anderson County.”
Burns has held the county’s top administrative spot since 2010.
Also on Tuesday, council agreed to close a 431-foot portion of Parker Road at the request of landowners’ whose property surrounds the road. Those who own land along the gravel and asphalt county road had asked for the closure of the right of way asked for the closing and abandonment of the road north of Wells Road.
Emergency services for the area or the county said the closure would not impact emergency vehicle response to the area.
Council also agreed, on second reading, an expanded lease for Habitat for Humanity on an empty lot in the City of Anderson between West Benson Street and West Church Street on the west side of South Murray Avenue.
At the earlier 6 p.m. recognition meeting, council honored long-time educator Roy Mack for his years of service to the community, the 150th Anniversary of the Founding of Evergreen Baptist Church and the 220th Anniversary of the Founding of Neals Creek Baptist Church.
