Council to Vote on Bond for Courthouse Repairs

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Anderson County Council on Tuesday will vote on a $8.3 million general bond for repairs to the renovation and restoration of the historic courthouse at 6:30 p.m. in the courthouse. Work is already under way on this project

The 126-year-old structure is suffering from lack of regular structural maintenance, with rotten timbers, crumbling and loose bricks, water leaks, a damaged and aging roof and poor gutters. The interior has also been in need of work for years.

Council will also give final vote on leasing property at 313 South Towers Street to Love Well Ministries for use as a residential treatment program for women.

At the earlier 6 p.m. awards meeting, council will honor the T.L. Hanna High School Girls Golf Team on winning the 2024 Class AAAAA Division II State Championship, the T.L. Hanna High School Boys Golf Team on winning the 2024 Class AAAAA State Championship, and Grayson and Dawson Turner for their selection to play baseball for Team USA in Barcelona, Spain, and for their outstanding athletic achievements.
