Belton kicked off the weekend of celebrations with the annual Belton Standpipe Heritage and Arts Festival at the Depot on Thursday with hundreds of local students on hand for hands on learning from artisans of various old-school talents.
From cooking like pioneers, stained-glass making and the art of sliver smithing, to a visit from "Benjamin Franklin," students were offered entertaining education as part of the two-day event leading up to the annual Standpipe Festival, which is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
