Observer Reports
Meals on Wheels-Anderson opened a new senior community center in Honea Path on Thursday, in a building custom updated for the purpose.
Scheduled to officially open Sept. 28, The Senior Place: Honea Path, will provide a place for senior citizens to gather for a nutritious meal, social and recreational activities, and educational opportunities.
“The Senior Place will be a vital lifeline for seniors in this area to provide nutritional meals and opportunities to socialize that help reduce their feelings of social isolation,” said Laurie Ashley, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels-Anderson.
Meals on Wheels-Anderson currently operates three similar centers in Anderson, Pendleton and West Pelzer as part of a contract with the Appalachian Council of Governments. For more than 40 years Meals on Wheels-Anderson has delivered hope for countless senior and disabled individuals across Anderson County through home delivered meals in addition to other services such as The Senior Place centers, medical transportation, and lawn care.
