New Event to Find Anderson County's Fastest People

So, you think you’re a pretty fast runner, eh?

Find out Aug.19 how you stack up in the first annual Anderson County’s Fastest Runners event, which offers runners of all age groups discover their personal best time in sanctioned speed events between 9 a.m.-noon at the Anderson Lights of Hope/Anderson County Recycling property.

Sponsored by Anderson County, the 400-yard timed runs will begin every few minutes beginning at 9 a.m., for ages five and up, with races grouped by age. Only manual wheelchairs will be allowed in the time events and a first-place medals will be awarded-the male and female winners in each category.

Food trucks will be on hand in the Anderson Christmas Lights Christmas Village, along with other merchandise vendors and representatives from local running clubs.

The age categories are:  Under 5; 6-8; 9-11; 12-15; 16-18; 19-21; 22-25; 26-30; 31-35; 36-40; 41-45; 46-50; 51-55; 56-60; 61-65; 66-70; 71-75; 76-80; 80-85; 86-90; and 90 and up. Overall male and female winners will also be recognized.

All runners must be a resident of Anderson County and provide proof of residency and age (birth certificate or South Carolina Driver’s License or DMV ID). 

Advanced registration is $25 for adults, $20 for students, (day of event registration $35), which includes an even t-shirt and a racing bib which displays the runner’s race number, and which must be fully visible at all times and worn on the front of your torso on your outermost garment. A timing device (B-Tag) is attached-the back of each bib-record each runner’s time.

All proceeds from the event will go-the Anderson Lights of Hope and the Cancer Association of Anderson.

In case of rain on Aug. 19, the event will be rescheduled Aug. 26.
