New Foundations Marks 50 Years of Service to Anderson

Only a handful of charitable organizations have been serving Anderson County for half a century, and the number serving children is even smaller.

On Thursday, New Foundations Home for Children celebrated their 50th year of providing care for adolescents and families in a safe environment where the two groups are kept connected when possible.

In 1974, the organization was founded as a non-profit residential setting on County Home. Finances were tight in the early days. When the organization incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1976, the $15 check for the application bounced.

But from such beginnings, the group (then know as the Anderson Youth Association) grew, adding a home for girls in 1976 and continuing to add programs and services as it adopted the name New Foundations, moved to Standridge Road, and grew into an organization that provides a comprehensive program of care for children and their families.

Thousands of children and families have benefited from the group homes, foster care services and in-home support from their work.

The organization’s “relentless” pursuit to keep children safe, strengthen families, and provide needed treatment interventions was the theme of Thursday’s event where CEO Steve Dean promised New Foundations would: “Secure the Future for Children and Families…Whatever it Takes!”
