Editor’s Note: This is the first in a series of ongoing columns by Mr. Riddley exclusively for The Anderson Observer to shine a light on individuals working hard to make Anderson County better.
When I was in college, social media was still in its infancy. Facebook felt new and innovative, and served essentially as a simple extension of everyday life. One of my favorite habits back then was posting public shout-outs to friends, offering them compliments and encouragement, and sometimes highlighting an achievement or personal characteristic that made them a valuable member of our community. I found it to be a way to connect in a positive and meaningful way.
Fast forward more than a decade, and the digital landscape is more complex. Social media has grown noisier and more contentious. Still, the idea of using platforms—and words—to lift people up and call attention to “the good stuff” resonates with me. That’s why I’m excited to revive this concept here in The Anderson Observer, with a column dedicated to celebrating the people who shape our community, including the many whose contributions often go unrecognized.
I’d like to kick things off by spotlighting someone who has made a real, significant impact recently in Anderson: Brandie Noles Greer.
Known for her infectious smile, professional demeanor, and unwavering commitment to her community, Brandie exemplifies resilience and leadership.
I first met Brandie a few years ago when she joined the Anderson Chamber of Commerce. I noticed immediately that she is an engaging presence. She is always armed with a smile, a Diet Coke, and maybe even a joke about her hero, Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. Brandie’s authenticity and work ethic make her stand out. She’s the kind of person who brings warmth and professionalism to everything she does.
Over the past several months, however, it’s been her strength and resilience that have truly set her apart. Through no fault of her own, she suddenly found herself tasked with leading a 125-year-old organization through unprecedented challenges. During these trying times, Brandie has proven herself with determination and grace. She has navigated the complexities of the situation while maintaining her personable and down-to-earth nature.
In a time of crisis, she has done much more than “keep the lights on.” It has become abundantly clear: if anyone is made to lead her organization into the future, it’s Brandie. When others might be tempted to celebrate themselves, Brandie instead focuses on the job at hand.
The accompanying photo captures a lighter side of Brandie—she is pictured with her husband in Clemson University’s presidential box during a football game. Given her name, you might think she’s a “Noles” fan. As an Anderson native, you’d expect her to cheer for the Tigers. But no—Brandie (unfortunately) supports the Crimson Tide. She’s the only person I let call me “Harvard,” and she’s always welcome to throw in a “Roll Tide.”
