The 18th Annual “Mayor Terence Roberts Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast” is scheduled Jan. 17 beginning at 8:30 a.m. (doors open at 8 a.m.) at the Anderson Civic Center.

“Hosting the MLK breakfast is a profound honor and responsibility,” said Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts. “As we gather to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of his unwavering belief in the power of education as a tool for social change and empowerment.”

This year’s keynote speaker is educator, author, spoken-word artist and mentor Raen Parker Washington. Washington has a passion for arts-based and mixed media arts, literary, literacy-based, and cross-cultural programming for youth and community-based organizations.

The theme for the event is “Hope, Freedom, Perseverance and Justice.”

"In the spirit of Dr. King's vision, we gather for this breakfast not just to remember, but to commit ourselves to the education of our young people, inspiring them to dream, to question, and to rise as leaders of tomorrow," said Roberts. “This breakfast serves as a vital platform to inspire our community to invest in the future of our children, ensuring that they have the knowledge and tools to create a more just and equitable society.”

The event is free and open to the public, but organizers request reservations by email bbell@cityofandersonsc.com, or by calling 864-231-1135.
