Statewide Burn Ban Now in Effect
Observer Reports
A outdoor burning ban is now in effect for the entire state of South Carolina.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission said statewide weather conditions, including extremely low humidity and strong winds are expected throughout the state over the next few days enhancing the possibility of wildfires.
“The combination of gusty winds and low relative humidity is a recipe for wildfires igniting easily and spreading rapidly,” SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. “Especially when you add to the mix the abundance of dry, late-winter fuels on the ground.”
The burn ban prohibits all “outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.”
The ban will remain in place until further notice.
