With the primaries for county and state offices less than five months away, a candidate for the seat to be vacated by Anderson County Councilman John Wright, Jr., is the first to throw his hat in the ring.

Anderson-native Chris Sullivan, officially announced his intentions this week to run for the district one seat, saying he hopes to continue to build on the progress in the county.

“My goal is to continue bringing high-quality industries to the county to provide good, high-paying jobs,” said Sullivan, who added that he believes this can be done while protecting the “charm” and character that makes the county special. “By focusing on continued economic development, managed smart growth and improving local roads, I think we can continue to make Anderson County one of the best places to live in the entire country.”

A seventh-generation Andersonian, his family started and ran Sullivan Buick for more than five decades, Sullivan said his father’s participation in community service helped inspire his desire to run for office.

“My dad served on numerous boards while I grew up, so I always felt it was my responsibility  to serve our Anderson community,” said Sullivan. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the people of Anderson County as part of the county council.”

After graduating from the University of Georgia, Sullivan moved back to Anderson, where he worked in banking for more than 15 years, during which time he has been involved with the Chamber of Commerce and United Way, as well as serving on other boards and committees. He and his wife, Sissa, operated Blake and Brady Boutique in downtown Anderson from 2007-2021. They have two children, Blakely, a sophomore at the University of Alabama and Brady, a junior at T.L. Hanna.

In 2007 my wife and I opened Blake and Brady Boutique in Downtown Anderson. Being a part of the growth of Downtown over our 15 years there is one of the great moments of my life. I am a very proud Andersonian and am amazed at how it has grown over the years.

“And while I am running for the district one seat, I am passionate about serving the entire county of Anderson. There are so many amazing and exciting projects being considered in Anderson and I plan to be a big part of serving the best interests of our county if elected.”

Sullivan said he encourages citizens with questions to email him at cnsullivan@me.com.

Anderson County Council is a partisan race, and Sullivan is running as a Republican. Official filing for candidates seeking to run this year opens March 16.

The county/statewide primaries are June 11. For information on registering to vote, or checking your voter registration, visit SCvotes.gov.
