Courthouse Repairs Close Road Downtown
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
The road behind the historic Anderson County Courthouse will be closed to traffic for the foreseeable future, as repair work has started on the building.
The structure, which was dedicated in 1898, has had some work and updates/revisions over the past century, but nothing in more than three decades. County council approved an $8 million bond to remedy this, since much of the work needed is structural and critical to the courthouse being used now and in the future.
In addition to repairs to the tile roof, the timber structures in the clock tower are being replaced, as well as repairs to the brick and mortar. Work is expected to continue for at least six weeks.
