Planning Commission Rejects 2 Projects in School Dist. 1
The Anderson County Planning Commission rejected a pair of housing developments on Tuesday after Anderson School Dist. 1 expressed concerns that continued unbridled growth in the area.
The commission denied the 13.62-acre single-family Acorn Glen housing subdivision on Roger Road, was asking to divide the property into 30 lots, and a request to build more than 50 townhouses known as Harvest Creek Cottages on 19.86 acres on Anderson Road.

Tysl Wins Belton City Council Special Election
Winning nearly 70 percent of the votes cast, Russ Tysl was elected to Belton City Council Ward 3 on Tuesday in a special election
Of the 152 total votes cast, Tysi received 106, or 69.74 percent, and Tanner White received 46, or 30 percent. Voter turnout was 6.02 percent.

City Annexes 139.5 Acres for New Development
Anderson City Council on Monday unanimously approved the annexation and rezoning of 139.5 acres on Shockley Ferry Road across from Silver Brook Cemetery to single-family residential which is expected to have 235, 7,000-square-foot lots. The houses will be required to meet all city requirements and will have a density of 1.75 houses per acre.

Sidewalk Connecting AU/Athletic Campus Part of of Larger Proposal
The city is looking at the initial stage, a six-foot wide sidewalk linking the two campuses, aimed at improving pedestrian safety. The city and university are working with Seamon Whiteside engineering to design this initial phase of the project. Monday’s proposal is to award the construction bid for the roughly one-mile sidewalk to Southern Concrete and Construction for $396,000 and will be paid for by the accommodations tax.

Anderson County Council interviewed five candidates for the Anderson County Library Board of Trustees on Tuesday in an executive session during a special called meeting in the historic courthouse downtown. Six council members took part in the interviews, with Councilwoman Cindy Wilson absent from the meeting.
