City to Consider Changes in Election Boundaries
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Anderson City Council will begin consideration of the redrawing of city county seat lines as part of Monday’s meeting at 6 p.m. in the council chambers downtown. A 5 p.m. work session will also be held to discuss the process and options.
The city is required to review and make changes to the boundaries every 10 years in response to changes in population recorded by the United States Census. An agreement on new lines must be reached by early October to allow the new wards to be a part of the April municipal elections. Seats 1-6 will see changes from the redrawing of precinct lines, while the at-large seats will be unaffected. The redrawn lines will meet the 1965 Voting Rights Act requirements.
