Jobless Rate Up in Anderson County in June
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Anderson County's unemployment rate moved up to 3.3 percent in June, up from 2.7 percent in May. The increase reflects a statewide trend. Every other county in South Carolina posted similar increases for June.
Of the 92,786-member workforce in the county, 91,660 were employed while 3,126 remain jobless.
The statewide jobless rate remained stable at 3.1 percent in June. Note the statewide rate is seasonally adjusted, unlike the county jobless rates which are based on raw data.
Schools letting out historically bring a significant increase in the labor force, one that is difficult for the job market to absorb. In the past, jobless numbers have stabilized in July.
Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent from May’s rate of 3.7 percent.
