Study: S.C. Fifth in Nation Among Those Leaving Jobs

Observer Reports

South Carolina has the fifth highest rate of Americans quitting their jobs, according to a study by Wallet Hub, an online service that offers free credit scores.

Even as the economy has continued to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there has been a surge in job openings, some employers are having a difficult time filling all their open positions as millions of Americans are quitting their jobs each month, even in the face of high inflation

The incentives available from changing jobs, as well as desire to get away from careers impacted most by COVID-19, are two big factors driving what's been dubbed the "Great Resignation." As a result, new job applicants have a lot of leverage.

South Carolina is among the states with the most employed individuals leaving their jobs over the past year, with 3.44 percent moving on to new employment.

To rank the states and the District of Columbia, the study used United States Bureau of Labor Department information to measure the rate at which people quit their jobs in both the latest month and the last 12 months.
