Council Council Sends Roads Referendum to Voters

The penny sales tax is projected to generate close to $50 annually, which will offer a map for repairs and maintenance. Last year, Anderson County Council hired a firm to send an evaluation vehicle  to drive every mile of county roads and measure the quality of every mile. The results of that work are now being evaluated, but initial findings include 380 miles of roads which are in poor condition or already failing. The costs associated with repairing these is close to $1 million per mile.

Rapid Growth Drove Anderson County News in 2023

The county added more than 1,500 jobs as established companies expanded and new businesses chose to build in Anderson County. International investment in the county, which leads the state in overseas companies, added three more investments in overseas businesses bringing new jobs to Anderson. Unemployment continued to slide back toward the historic pre-pandemic numbers as well.

S.C. Seeks Ways to Fill Gap Left by Scarcity of Mental Health Professionals

Between 2009 and 2019, the number of psychiatrists in rural areas declined by one third, the state’s annual report on health issues found, using the most recent data available. Of the state’s 46 counties, 14 had no licensed psychiatrist or psychologist in private practice, and another nine had only one. In some areas, residents have to cross multiple counties to reach a psychiatrist’s office, according to the report released last week.
