Sanders Countersues Galyean Over Accusations
S.C. Representative-Elect Blake Sanders, R-Dist. 9, has filed a countersuit against James Galyean, claiming that under SC Code § 15-36-10, also referred to as the South Carolina Frivolous Civil Proceeding Sanctions Act, “as this action is non-meritorious and Sanders seeks sanctions, including attorney’s fees and other relief the statute provides for and the court deems proper, at the appropriate juncture of this action.”
Two Good Signs for Anderson Civic Center
The main sign replaces the antiquated and difficult to update and maintain sign on Civic Center Boulevard. It features up-to-date video screens and greater ease of use from officials at the civic center. A new, smaller sign, which also includes video, has been installed at the entrance on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard as well.
Spring-Like Weather Greets Crowds at Spring Water Festival

County's Jobless Rate Up in July
Anderson reflects the statewide trend, with every other county in the state posting higher unemployment numbers in July.
September is National Library Card Month
September is Notional Library Card Month, and the Anderson County Library System has made a video to promote the season, and is also offering a series of events and incentives to promote the activities available to all citizens at the library.
Family-Owned Company to Bring 35 New Jobs to County
Anderson County Council on Tuesday gave initial approval to tax incentives for an American company which will bring 35 new jobs with average annual salaries of $75,000-$145,000 per year.
The family owned company will invest $30 million in the project and the first year economic impact on the county is expected to top $13 million.
Market Theatre Brings "James and the Giant Peach" to Carolina Wren Park
The Market Theatre, in cooperation with the City of Anderson, will present the family-friendly musical “James and The Giant Peach” Aug. 22-26 in Carolina Wren Park.
The production is free, and those who attend are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and picnic baskets and coolers are welcomed (though no glass or outside alcohol is allowed), but pets are not allowed in the park for the show.
County Council Completes Third Round of Library Board Interviews
These candidates represent the final round of five. Council has previously interviewed 10 candidates for the two newly created library board seats.
Council is expected to choose an indeterminate number of finalists from the 15 interviews for a second round, and announce their decision at the Sept. 3 county council meeting.
County Non-Partisan Elections Set for November
Filing is now closed for Anderson County non-partisan races for November’s general election.
Candidates for the Soil and Water District Commission, school district trustees, the county Board of Education, Watershed Conservation Districts, Fire District Commissioners, and Public Service Districts for Homeland Park Water and Sewer are set for the election.
Anderson Free Clinic Marks 40 Years of Community Service
In 1984 a group of concerned Anderson citizens and medical professionals, recognizing that too many in the community had no access to medical care, decided to do something about it.
They gave birth to the Anderson Free Clinic for those who could not afford medical treatment and were often forced to do without or seek help at the emergency room.
The clinic is now celebrating 40 years of community service, with a carnival-themed event Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Bleckley Inn.

Council to Consider Incentives to Bring 35 Jobs to Anderson
Anderson County Council will vote on economic incentives for a new company promising to bring 35 new jobs with average cash compensation of $42.47 per hour at Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. meeting in the historic courthouse downtown.

Planning Commission Rejects 2 Projects in School Dist. 1
The Anderson County Planning Commission rejected a pair of housing developments on Tuesday after Anderson School Dist. 1 expressed concerns that continued unbridled growth in the area.
The commission denied the 13.62-acre single-family Acorn Glen housing subdivision on Roger Road, was asking to divide the property into 30 lots, and a request to build more than 50 townhouses known as Harvest Creek Cottages on 19.86 acres on Anderson Road.
Tysl Wins Belton City Council Special Election
Winning nearly 70 percent of the votes cast, Russ Tysl was elected to Belton City Council Ward 3 on Tuesday in a special election
Of the 152 total votes cast, Tysi received 106, or 69.74 percent, and Tanner White received 46, or 30 percent. Voter turnout was 6.02 percent.
S.C. Education Board Close on School Cell Phone Ban
The unanimous vote comes six weeks after the state budget mandated school districts to adopt a policy banning cellphones during the school day or risk state funding. But the State Board of Education must first adopt a model policy for them to follow.
