Jo Carol Mitchell-Rogers is in the final stages of completing one of her greatest finished work: a legacy of art and art education at Anderson University.

Mitchell-Rogers Oeuvre includes not only countless creations of her own, but a hand in the work of hundreds of students over her near-four decades at the school.

The Friends of the Anderson County Library have opened a new online store to support the work and mission of the library across the county.

The group is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and volunteer organization that provides advocacy and financial support county's library system. The Friends is governed by a volunteer board that meets monthly.

The county will rent a 2,919 square-foot building in the complex, located at 2110 Highway 86 in Piedmont, for $6,250 per month. Officials suggest the new location for EMS and the Sheriff’s Office will provide better coverage and response times for that part of northern Anderson County.

Anderson County Council gave second-reading approval on Tuesday to leasing a portion of the county’s property on Towers Street to Love Well, a residential treatment center for women seeking recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction, drifted into an airing of grievances about the issue of homeless people in the city.

The four-month Love Well program will offer residential treatment for woman admitted with referral from Anderson County Drug Court, Public Defender’s Office, Detention Center, and/or the Solicitor’s Office.

Starting next school year, all high school athletes who switch schools in South Carolina may be able to immediately play ball for their new team.

That potential game changer in the rules governing middle and high school sports is due to a single sentence in the state’s 2023 voucher law that hasn’t gotten much attention — that is, until senators opened this session debating a bill designed to reinstate what the state Supreme Court struck: K-12 scholarships for private tuition.

S.C. Sen. Richard Cash, R-Dist. 3, S.C. Sen. Mike Gambrell, R.-Dist. 4, S.C. Rep. Don Chapman, R.-Dist. 8 and S.C. Rep. Blake Sanders, R.-Dist. 9 attended the event which was slated to include the entire delegation. S.C. Rep. Thomas Beach, R.-Dist. 10, S.C. Rep. April Cromer, R.-Dist. 6, S.C. Rep. Lee Gilreath, R.-Dist. 7 and S.C. Rep. Craig Gagnon, R.-Dist. 11 were invited but not present for the event which brought leaders from across the county.

Anderson County Council this week approved the five projects for funding using funds from the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund.

Anderson County Council approved a $779,000 bid for the Piedmont Riverfront Park Project on Tuesday night. The picturesque Piedmont Riverfront Park will be the fifth access facility developed by the county to support the Upper Saluda River Blue Trail.

Finding funding for roads, upgrading the county’s parks and recreation facilities, continuing the Hurricane Helene cleanup, and working to provide affordable housing are among the challenges Anderson County faces moving into 2025.
