Verdin Becomes Third Woman to Serve S.C. High Court
The addition of Verdin, 53, of Greenville County, means the Palmetto State will no longer be the nation’s only all-male high court. She becomes the third female justice in state history — following former Chief Justice Jean Toal and retired Associate Justice Kaye Hearn.
Meals on Wheels Hartwell Lake Run this Weekend
Meals on Wheels – Anderson’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Hartwell Lake Charity Run is set for this weekend at Green Pond Landing and Events Center.
The weekend’s activities begin with tomorrow’s ticketed event, “Social on the Green,” featuring live music by Talbert Black, catered food by Sullivan’s Metropolitan Grill, with boats on display. Limited tickets available onsite.

County Advances on $345 Million 24-25 Budget
Anderson County Council approved on second reading Tuesday a fiscal year 2024-2025 budget of $345 million. The budget is an increase of $59 million over the current fiscal year’s $289 million, and in its current form does not include tax increases.

Saluda River Rally Celebrates Year 14 Saturday
More than 100 Kayakers from more than 10 states are expected to visit Dolly Cooper Park Saturday for the launch of the 13th annual Saluda River Rally. Participants may launch at 8 a.m. and must be out of the river by 5 p.m. All proceeds go to the Area 14 Anderson County Special Olympics.

Farmers Markets Offers $50 Vouchers to Eligible Seniors
This year the vouchers are for $50 in the form five $10 vouchers. The Anderson County Senior Citizens Program and Anderson County, in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services and other state agencies, will issue the vouchers to eligible senior citizens which can be used to purchase produce at participating farmer’s markets through Oct. 15. The vouchers will be issued on a ‘first come-first serve’ basis until the supply is exhausted. EBT is accepted year-round at are farmers markets.
