Live music, food and more were featured Saturday at the Anderson County Latinx Council’s second annual Hispanic Festival at the Anderson County Farmers Market.

Contestants were challenged with eating a honey sopped biscuit and then whistle. Sterling Tyner of Belton took the women’s championship, will Belton-Honea Path High School Student Cody Bailey captured the men’s crown. Each will receive $100 prize for their achievement.

The cast is pitch perfect as they move throughout the ominously told story of a family tradition of matter-of-fact murders, with some of the most unlikely members keeping score of their villainous killings.

Nearly 180 women have graduated from the program, with some earning advanced and professional degrees. AIM Founder and CEO said many other women spent some time in the program which provided tools with life-changing results.

From cooking like pioneers, stained-glass making and the art of sliver smithing, to a visit from "Benjamin Franklin," students were offered entertaining education as part of the two-day event leading up to the annual Standpipe Festival, which is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Friday is the deadline for in-person registration, Sunday is the deadline for online registration.

The library’s Youth Services department is accepting the donation of gently used costumes, dance outfits, etc. that are in good condition (i.e., show no visible stains, have minimal wear and tear, etc.) through Oct. 15. The outfits can be dropped off at the main branch of the library.

For year 12, Pendleton’s annual scarecrow contest is going historical, with a few fun exceptions.

The event features scarecrow historical figures such as Francis Marion and Thomas Green Clemson, as well as Andy and Barney on a Mayberry bench.
