Celebrate Anderson Marks 25 Years with 2 Concerts/Fireworks Shows
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the event and will include Randy Houser on Saturday, and Ashley McBryde on Sunday. Both concerts are open to the public, but require a free ticket available at www.andersonevents.com. Organizers are expecting both events to reach capacity and encourage fans to get tickets early. Fireworks shows are scheduled each evening after the concert.
The weekend also includes hot air balloons from all over the nation as part of the Cancer Association of Anderson’s annual “Hot Air Affair” fundraiser event, which also aims to increase awareness of the mission of hope and support provided by the Cancer Association of Anderson.

Starr Residents Express Opposition to Massive Mobile Home Park
More than 300 citizens were on hand at the Starr Fire Department Tuesday night to express concerns about a potential 249-unit mobile home park which had been proposed for the Starr area. The developer, Cook Properties NY, submitted the proposal for 8010 S.C. 81 to the Anderson County Planning Commission (see map below) on July 29, and it became public in the weeks since, causing a flurry of complaints by citizens who live in the area.The area in question covers more than 70 acres, with 23 of those acres under the jurisdiction of the Town of Starr and the rest under ordinances of Anderson County.

Anderson City Council gave final approval on Monday to the rezoning of 10 acres located at 110 Fairway Green off U.S. 29 South for 80 proposed townhouses. The townhouses will be a minimum of 1,500 square feet and the development will include sidewalks, a large common area and a pocket park.

Sanders Countersues Galyean Over Accusations
S.C. Representative-Elect Blake Sanders, R-Dist. 9, has filed a countersuit against James Galyean, claiming that under SC Code § 15-36-10, also referred to as the South Carolina Frivolous Civil Proceeding Sanctions Act, “as this action is non-meritorious and Sanders seeks sanctions, including attorney’s fees and other relief the statute provides for and the court deems proper, at the appropriate juncture of this action.”

The main sign replaces the antiquated and difficult to update and maintain sign on Civic Center Boulevard. It features up-to-date video screens and greater ease of use from officials at the civic center. Family-Owned Company to Bring 35 New Jobs to County
Anderson County Council on Tuesday gave initial approval to tax incentives for an American company which will bring 35 new jobs with average annual salaries of $75,000-$145,000 per year.
The family owned company will invest $30 million in the project and the first year economic impact on the county is expected to top $13 million.

Market Theatre Brings "James and the Giant Peach" to Carolina Wren Park
The Market Theatre, in cooperation with the City of Anderson, will present the family-friendly musical “James and The Giant Peach” Aug. 22-26 in Carolina Wren Park.
The production is free, and those who attend are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and picnic baskets and coolers are welcomed (though no glass or outside alcohol is allowed), but pets are not allowed in the park for the show.

Anderson Free Clinic Marks 40 Years of Community Service
In 1984 a group of concerned Anderson citizens and medical professionals, recognizing that too many in the community had no access to medical care, decided to do something about it.
They gave birth to the Anderson Free Clinic for those who could not afford medical treatment and were often forced to do without or seek help at the emergency room.
The clinic is now celebrating 40 years of community service, with a carnival-themed event Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Bleckley Inn.
